CLOCKSS is a dark archive that preserves electronic content from participating publishers. CLOCKSS ingests content both by harvesting it from publisher websites, and by receiving files of e-content directly from publishers. If a publisher discontinues a title and the title is unavailable from any other source, the CLOCKSS Board can declare a trigger event, and make the title available to the community as open access. Triggered titles are available on the CLOCKSS website.
Transparency is an essential part of digital preservation. To ensure that information about preserved content is widely available, CLOCKSS participates in the Keepers Registry, which aggregates preservation information from participating preservation agencies and makes it available to the community.
For each publisher and title that CLOCKSS has committed to preserve, the Keepers report shows what volumes are preserved in the CLOCKSS preservation network, and which are in process. This report provides a clear picture of the CLOCKSS preservation workflow when the report was created.
